1783- Choice Poem

The soldiers line up

On the green, green, green hill

Their machete’s and guns leaning at their shoe heels

As a voice shouts out “Charge”, they all go into war

Remembering the purpose, and what this was for

The dust kicks up, as the soldiers risk their lives

For the country they are meant to serve, every day; every night

They are bold facing death in the face at that time

Courages and strong, on that very cold night

Finally the last gunshot has struck the night sky

And the soldiers let out a yelp of surprise

Yes, a lot died for their country we say

In fact, we honor them everyday

They helped saved our America in 1783

And we owe them great thanks for all eternity

As I lay down in bed and close my eyes

I think of the soldiers that risked their lives

  1. Wow, I really loved this post! As someone who enjoys reading and writing poetry, reading what you have written was quite nice. It is rather impressive how you caught the feeling of war in your poem too. I find it neat how a lot of people don’t even think of all the brave people that sacrificed themselves in the army, but you do. You really do think about them. Anyways, love your poem! Keep writing, okay?
